Beautiful song, Ryan. A special thank you to you, our worship team, to pastor Bobby, the kids min team, and EVERYONE at our church for all that you do! You've all played a part in my salvation and helped me get closer and closer to our Lord and Savior. I'm so incredibly grateful for our church, the Bible, God... You've inspired me to write a poem about it!

I feel joy when reading the events of David’s life as it correlates to some of the praise songs that he wrote in the Psalms. Yes, life gets hard, even for men and women who seek the heart of God ... but God’s constant steadfast love overwhelms our soul in times of need! All glory to Him!

Rejoicing today in the Psalms not being lead by my feelings but by the Throne!

So excited to sing this new song with my church family!!! “Then the king said to Doeg, ‘You turn and strike the priests.’ And Doeg the Edomite turned and struck down the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five persons who wore the linen ephod.” 1 Samuel 22:18 I was so encouraged by Ahimelech whose heart stood with David, and who unashamedly told Saul in v.15 that it was not the first time he had inquired of God on David’s behalf. I spent time praying that I would stand with Christ all the days of my life even unto death, and got to spend time praying for boldness in my workplace so that even when others view the cross as folly, God would open their eyes to see their own foolishness and to experience the riches of his mercy and kindness in the gospel! I was struck by the severity of Doag’s sin which David describes in Psalm 52: “See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction (v. 7).” Wow! What a vision of the one who seeks refuge in anything except the Lord God! Doeg thought it would go well with him because he took Saul’s side, but Psalm 52 makes it clear that he did not make God his refuge! What a warning to us to never take the “easy way out” but instead embrace the trials of our lives and find refuge in our Lord Jesus Christ for “Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him (psalm 34:8)!”

As it says in the commentary by Dale Ralph Davis, you will never perish when you fall into the abyss of God’s loving kindness Page 208. This is hesed

Everyday I am so excited to get into 1 Samuel!! Pairing it with the Psalms is going to bring so much more depth and richness to both books!! 🤯🙌🏼 And will help direct our hearts to our King!! 👏🏻 Yay!! Looking forward to singing this new worship song with the church!!

Thank you for pointing us to the Psalms and how they line up with David’s trust in the Lord as he is being pursued by Saul. As I go through trials in this season (losing my kids and job) I continually praise the Lord for his goodness and mercy. I continually pray for wisdom and guidance as I move forward in obedience to God. I am encouraged by Psalm 34:1-4 Psalms 34:1-4 (ESV) 1 Of David, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away. I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. 3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! 4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.

I also think about the Lord’s Prayer and he teaches us to pray that we would be delivered from evil or the evil one in Matthew 6:13 “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” This is what David prays in Psalm 59:1-2: To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam of David, when Saul sent men to watch his house in order to kill him. [1] Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me; [2] deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men. Am I praying that I would not be lead into anything that would hinder my love for the Lord? Am I asking God to keep my feet from stumbling and to fix my eyes on things that are of eternal value and not worthless things? Am I asking him to deliver me from the evil one-the enemy of my soul? We may not have people chasing us and trying to constantly take our lives, but we have an adversary that prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. We are on his hit list. I want to be prayerful like David was and ask God to deliver me from my temptations and anything that is not of him!

I love the clarity of what it means to be authentic at 11:18 It’s comforting to know that we all have the ability to imitate David’s faith! We have the Spirit to help us obey God, even when we don’t feel like it, just like we see in David’s life.

Oh YES I remember the streams in the desert of Engedi! Especially the waterfall at the top on a day of climbing up 100 degrees that summer day last summer 2023 on the trip to Israel with 99 brothers and sisters from Compass! This was definitely my highlight day ! Never had been there before, tho I’d been to Israel 24 years before on a evangelism medical team to Bethlehem at Bethlehem Bible College where we served Palestinian Refugee. Camp. Anyway, I love this breakdown of 1 Samuel chapters and Psalms written by David- thank you Pastor Bobby and Ryan! I also remember from that trip last summer reading psalms of Ascents 30-50? ( not sure of all of them) as we ascended up to Jerusalem in the bus. That was so very special to be reading the psalms out loud going up to Jerusalem like many before us would have done as the walked there for a Jewish Feast celebration. I pray others from Compass can go to Israel on that trip in the future as we pray for the peace of Israel. Shalom! ( Sheila Livingston)

Been praying for young man Diego who fell off his skateboard and hit his head. Good news, he made it! He's alive. Heads up, graphic...Part of his skull is being held in his stomach so his brain can swell. His trach is not fully closed and they're keeping it sanitized and he still has to use a feeding tube which he hates. He's getting Pt treatments to help him walk again and gain stability. There's a whole lot more I forgot but so many prayed and we're so grateful. I sent the verse to them on their Caring Bridge link. Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” Then the other verse I ran across today was really cool I'll be teaching on the Miracles of Jesus so all of them are encouraging. But this verse is perfect for the end of the booklet; John 14:12-14 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. 🙌🙌🙌 Pray for Diego's complete healing! BTW, he just had his 18th birthday and was supposed to graduate with his class😕 yet still praising God he is alive hallelujah!

“'Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭32:17‬ ‭ This verse always pumps me up to pray with faith because there is nothing too hard for the Lord

Psalm 18:30 “This God-his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”

1 John 5:4-5 ... “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” We are victorious because of our faith! When judgment comes, the genuineness of your faith is all that matters. Christ is all that matters! Your faith causes you to pray, and when you pray, God acts. He acted in a mighty way in my life because of your prayers, the prayers of the brothers and sisters. Praise be to God that he is glorified and you are blessed ... because you prayed! Keep it up church! And thank you for your prayers!

I’ve been coming to Compass for about 10 months now and every sermon seems to be better than the last one. Over the years I’ve heard many sermons about money at church (they’re usually pretty dry) and this is the best one on the subject that I’ve EVER heard! While our family lacks the power, influence, and monetary means to support you as Jonathan did to David, please know that you can rely on our prayers and wholehearted support for you, your family, and Compass Bible Church. Though we aspire to possess the prestige of Jonathan, or the godliness and wisdom of Nathan, Gad, and Zadok, or even the youthful strength of the three mighty warriors who brought David water from the well in Bethlehem (2 Samuel 23:16), we humbly acknowledge that we cannot even claim the privilege of being called Hushai to you. Instead, let us be like Ittai the Gittite (2 Samuel 15:21) or Chimham, the son of Barzillai the Gileadite (2 Samuel 19:35-37)-available and faithful for any small or great tasks. Go forth, building His kingdom, and imprint your psalms not merely on scrolls, but within the minds, hearts, and souls of God’s redeemed people. Be more than just a Christ-like leader for His church; strive to become the man He proudly designates as “a man after His own heart.” Pursue all He has called you to be, knowing that you have the unwavering support, heart and soul of Compass Bible Church, along with our little family, like Ittai.

Even in the darkest circumstances, Jonathan fearlessly fought, sustained by his faith in the God who can save by many or by few. In contrast, Saul fought for personal glory, even when he was part of God's battle, where God was fighting for His people and securing a glorious victory. On the journey of following Jesus, our Savior and Lord, we may encounter both types of people like Jonathan and Saul. More often, we may encounter those like Saul, who live only to please themselves. In those moments, we must choose for ourselves whether to rise up in faith and live for God like Jonathan. 13:15 And Saul numbered the people who were present with him, about six hundred men….22 So on the day of the battle there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people with Saul and Jonathan 14:4 Within the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistine garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side and a rocky crag on the other side….6 Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the Lord will work for us, for nothing can hinder the Lord from saving by many or by few.” 14:23 So the Lord saved Israel that day. Hebrews 10:23 [23] Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. so encouraged by the video to obey God with faith!!

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:19-20 We can be confident in salvation because Jesus has already opened the way for us!

1 Samuel 14:6-7 Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the LORD will work for us, for nothing can hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few.” [7] And his armor-bearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Do as you wish. Behold, I am with you heart and soul.” I love this confidence that the armor bearer has in Jonathan! He sees the direction and desire of Jonathan’s heart is God’s glory! What a friend to have and a friend to be! I want to encourage the obedience of faith in my one another’s so God will be glorified! A verse that strengthens my faith is after Habakkuk makes his complaint to the Lord and the LORD answers him and says: Habakkuk 1:5 “Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told. All Habakkuk sees is the evil prospering. God says to Look and See! He is working even when I don’t see it! He is always orchestrating every detail of our lives! I’m thankful that I can look back on His faithfulness in my life and see that He is still working all things for my good and His glory!

1 Peter 2:13-15 Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.
